Description

The passenger ship Stockholm was the world's longest-serving cruise ship.[1] It was built in 1946 at the Götaverken shipyard in Gothenburg, Sweden, as a transatlantic liner. The ship had eleven names over the course of its career, most recently Astoria since 2016. It became famous primarily for its collision with the Andrea Doria in 1956 and in the GDR as the FDGB vacation ship Völkerfreundschaft (1960–1985). The ship had been out of service since 2020. In 2025, it was sold to a shipbreaking yard in Ghent, Belgium; scrapping and recycling were underway there in the spring of 2026.
