Description

The Frankfurt was a German steamship of the Köln class, built by Joh. C. Tecklenborg for the Norddeutscher Lloyd. Launched on 17 December 1899, she operated on routes between Germany and the United States from 1900 to 1918, carrying many emigrants. In 1919, the vessel was acquired by the White Star Line. Three years later, she was sold to the Oriental Navigation Company in British Hong Kong and renamed Sarvistan. The ship is best known for its involvement in the wireless communications surrounding the sinking of the RMS Titanic in 1912.
