The little Nomadic is the last surviving ship of the White Star Line. Built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast alongside Olympic and Titanic and launched in April 1911, she worked as a tender at Cherbourg, where the great liners were too large to enter the harbour. On 10 April 1912 the tender ferried first- and second-class passengers out to the Titanic – among them some of the most famous people to sail on the maiden voyage.
Like her large fleetmates she came from the design office of Thomas Andrews, which makes her the only one of his ships still afloat. Nomadic served in both world wars, later spent many years as a restaurant ship on the Seine in Paris and was bought back for Belfast in 2006. Much of her original appearance has been brought back, and she is now open to visitors as a museum ship in the city's Titanic Quarter, only a few steps from the slipways where her famous companions were built.
